eIDAS & Chave Móvel Digital Signatures
Understand how eIDAS signature levels work in the EU — and how Portuguese signers can apply qualified signatures using Chave Móvel Digital (CMD) and SCAP.
eIDAS signature levels
The eIDAS regulation defines three tiers: Simple Electronic Signatures for basic intent, Advanced Electronic Signatures with stronger signer binding, and Qualified Electronic Signatures with full legal equivalence to handwritten signatures across EU member states.
Chave Móvel Digital (CMD)
CMD is Portugal's citizen digital identity. Signers authenticate with their mobile key to apply Advanced or Qualified signatures on documents distributed through WalliD Smart Sign — ideal for public-sector and consumer-facing workflows in Portugal.
SCAP & in-person qualified signing
For counter and branch scenarios, SCAP enables qualified certificate activation on-site. Combined with Sign on Site, staff can push contracts to a tablet and collect a qualified signature in minutes while the customer is present.
